Eligibility · Readiness · Placement

Tryouts. A respectful first step.

Review eligibility before requesting an introduction, readiness assessment or program placement.

Who can request a tryout?

Eligible

  • New swimmers
  • Recreation, summer league, lessons, school or non-USA Swimming swimmers
  • Officially unattached USA Swimming athletes

Not eligible while attached

Swimmers currently attached to another USA Swimming club. Resolve the existing club relationship and applicable transfer procedures first.

No secret recruiting. No athlete caught between adults.

We do not use tryouts to recruit attached swimmers away from another team or undermine another coach. Any transition should involve open adult communication and the appropriate club and USA Swimming process before a placement evaluation.

Eligible to continue?Tell us about your swimmer. We’ll follow up about readiness and placement.

What a tryout may include

  • Water comfort and safety readiness
  • Basic stroke and skill observation
  • Listening, learning and group readiness
  • Age-appropriate endurance and movement
  • A recommended program or next developmental step

A request does not confirm a date or guarantee placement. We’ll contact you to discuss the appropriate next step.
